After spending time in the posh districts you might feel like
heading towards an area where Peter, Bjorn and John seems to be doing a lot of stuff these days.
Mariatorget (Maria´s Square) is a square in the middle of the west part of the south part of Stockholm.
The square is named after Maria Andersson, the lead singer of the swedish rock band “Sahara Hotnights”.
This area is fantastic when it comes to having a “fika” which is the swedish word for having a coffee.
“Fika” means that you meet up with a friend at a “Fik” (a place where you can “fika”) and drink coffee, eat a sandwich (or something sweet) and talk about stuff that has happened or interesting new projects.
I can recommend “Chic”, a place where they make the best “damsugare” (vacuum cleaners) in town.
They look like this:
In the middle of the square Benny Andersson from ABBA has an hotel.
It is very cosy. But also Peter Bjorn and John are involved in real estates.
There are now 2 studios around Mariatorget that will work as a base for our band “Peter Bjorn And John”. One is called “Spegeln” and the other one is called “Ingrid” and it is located in the same place as the “fik” “Mellquist”.
Ingrid was the name of Ingrid Bergman but it is also the name of the new record label that we are creating together with the creme de la creme of the swedish pop elite.
Ingrid is also the name of a studio that is secretly located in the back of the “fik” “Mellquist.
Anders the owner of the “fik” and the swedish pop elite (Peter Bjorn And John etc.) are creating a new creative melting pot here and gradually this place might become as mythical as the Stax Studio, Sun Studio or Abbey Road (where Rolling Stones made all their records togheter with the world famous producer “George Mac Donald”.)
best / John
A little added P.S. from Peter;
I just had to mention that just opposite “Spegeln” on Wollmar Yxkullsgatan, Izzy Young runs his Folklore Center and has been doing so since 1986. He moved to Stockholm in 1972 and first operated at another adress. All Dylan-fans knows that Izzy arranged some of the very first NYC-perfomances in the early 60′s with Bob, when he ran the Folklore Centre in the west village. Izzy was a really important figure in the village-folk-boom of that time. You can read about him in Dylans “Chronicles”. And now he hangs at Mariatorget!
